Brow Lift Q & A

What is a brow lift?

A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that lifts and raises your brows, improves the appearance of your forehead, reduces wrinkles and lax skin, and makes you look years younger. Dr. Johnson can combine a brow lift with other cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift or a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), depending on your needs and goals.

What are the benefits of a brow lift?

Benefits of a brow lift include:

  • Tighter, lifted brows and forehead
  • Less skin sagging
  • Improved facial symmetry
  • Younger-looking appearance
  • Self-confidence

A brow lift often makes you look years younger without extensive downtime.

Is a brow lift right for me?

Dr. Johnson lets you know if you need a brow lift after discussing your desired results and medical history. She examines the skin on your face, brows, forehead, and surrounding tissues before customizing your treatment plan.

You may be a candidate for the procedure if you’re otherwise in good health but experience unwelcome signs of facial aging – especially in the upper part of your face.

What happens during a brow lift?

You may receive general anesthesia before undergoing a brow lift. Dr. Johnson makes incisions behind your hairline, on top of your head or forehead, near your hairline, or in other nearby areas based on the type of brow lift that’s right for you.

She removes lax tissues, tightens the remaining skin, closes the incisions, and places bandages on the treatment area before taking you to a recovery room. The procedure often lasts 1-2 hours.

What should I expect after a brow lift?

After your brow lift, you may experience temporary side effects such as swelling, tenderness, bruising, and redness.

Get plenty of rest, eat nutritious foods, and avoid strenuous exercise or washing your hair until given permission. Take medicines as directed, keep the treatment site clean, and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Bandages are removed after several days, and your  sutures (or staples) will come out in 1 week.

In a few weeks, you can expect a smoother, tighter, younger-looking forehead and eyebrow area. Protect your skin from the sun to minimize future signs of aging.
