Fat Grafting Q & A

What is fat grafting?

Fat grafting is a safe, highly effective way to transfer fat cells from one area of your body to another. Doing so adds volume and plumpness to certain parts of your body, such as your face, lips, breasts or buttocks.

What are the benefits of fat grafting?

Fat grafting offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Improved facial contours
  • More voluminous lips
  • Fuller, larger breasts
  • Rounder buttocks
  • Self-confidence

Fat grafts use fat cells sourced from your own body, so the treatment is all-natural and entirely safe. It offers long-lasting contouring results.

Is fat grafting right for me?

To determine if you’re a candidate for fat grafting at 817 Surgical arts, Dr. Johnson discusses your desired results. She reviews your medical history, completes a physical exam, and may order blood tests or other diagnostic testing. She then customizes a fat grafting procedure to match your aesthetic goals.

To prepare for the procedure, arrange for someone to drive you home afterward. Stop taking dietary supplements or medicines if asked to, don’t smoke, and avoid foods and drinks the morning of your fat grafting procedure if necessary.

What happens during fat grafting?

During fat grafting, you receive local anesthesia with a sedative to relax you or general anesthesia to help you fall asleep. Dr. Johnson uses a small hollow tube (cannula) to extract fat from areas of your body containing excess fat cells. She then prepares the harvested fat for injection into your face, lips, breast, buttocks, hips, or other areas.

What should I expect after the procedure?

After the procedure, follow Dr. Johnson’s detailed aftercare instructions. Get plenty of rest, take it easy, and avoid strenuous activity until she gives you permission to return to your regular activities. You might wear compression garments on the liposuctioned areas of your body. You may notice temporary redness, tenderness, or swelling at the treatment sites.

Avoid placing pressure on areas of your body containing fat grafts during the healing process and attend follow-up visits with Dr. Johnson.
