What is an injectable?

Injectables are often called “fillers” and are used to help restore volume and improve contours. Collagen is a key component to youthful looking skin, and its production decreases as we age. Fillers are often gel-like in consistency and can be injected to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles created by this lack of collagen. As an alternative, platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) can also be injected to help improve the skin appearance in certain areas.

How should I prepare for an injectable treatment?

Prior to injectable treatments, Dr. Johnson will perform a history and physical and discuss your goals. After a thorough review of your medical history, she takes several photos and lets you know what to expect during the treatment. You should stop taking medicines (NSAIDS) or supplements that cause bleeding for 1-2 weeks before injection and avoid alcohol the day before injection.

What should I expect during the procedure?

During your procedure, the filler is delivered through tiny needles. A distracting device is used to help decrease any potential discomfort. 

What happens during my recovery?

While you may experience some mild redness, swelling at the injection site, or potential bruising, there is no downtime to the procedure. It is best, however, to refrain of consuming alcoholic beverages, exercise or strenuous activity, massaging or putting pressure on the treated area for a few days. This helps ensure the injectable does not migrate to unwanted areas.
